It seems counter-intuitive, but apple cider vinegar (ACV) helps acid reflux for many people. The theory: many cases of acid reflux are caused by LOW stomach acid, not high. Low acid means food sits longer, ferments, and refluxes upward.
How it works: ACV is acidic enough to mimic stomach acid. Taken before meals, it helps digest food efficiently and signals the lower esophageal sphincter to close properly.
Who it helps: people whose reflux gets worse with antacids or PPIs over time. People with bloating after meals. People with acid reflux that started in middle age.
Who should avoid it: people with gastric ulcers, severe esophagitis, or known high-acid conditions. The acidity can worsen these.
How to try: 1 tablespoon raw ACV with the "mother" in a glass of water, 10-15 minutes before main meals. Use a straw to protect tooth enamel. Try for 2 weeks โ if it does not help, it is not your issue.
